D-line transfer eliminates Nebraska football, talented safety to visit

Nebraska football hasn’t been all that busy in the transfer portal. They added five transfers in the winter and have added another so far this spring.

That doesn’t mean the Huskers aren’t doing their due diligence. They certainly are. Head coach Matt Rhule has been careful with offers but Nebraska football did offer 6-foot-3, 282-pound defensive lineman Jay’viar Suggs out of Grand Valley State.

The former D-2 transfer has gotten tons of interest and it’s easy to see why. He had 21 tackles last season plus 7.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He would have been a great piece and might have been the third D-line starter alongside Ty Robinson and Nash Hutmacher.

However, the Huskers weren’t able to gain any traction and following a visit to Michigan, Suggs released a top six on Tuesday night that didn’t include Nebraska football.

Michigan State transfer to visit Nebraska

The Huskers have been in contact with a couple of defensive backs in the transfer portal. One is Terrance Brooks from Texas. Another is former Michigan State safety Jaden Mangham.

Mangham, who was a 2022 signee, visited Nebraska football. The Huskers recruited him as an athlete who could play wide receiver or cornerback. But he’s spent the past two seasons at safety for the Spartans with four interceptions in that time and 73 tackles. He also earned All-Big Ten honorable mention last season.

Mangham actually had a solid game against Nebraska. Michigan State beat Nebraska by three points and Mangham intercepted quarterback Heinrich Haarberg.
