U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark MISSES cut in debut at The Masters

While the tough weather conditions did play a huge factor in many players having trouble, Wyndham Clark was someone many expected to finish higher. He had been in good form coming into this event with a victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship.

The American international made six bogeys and just one birdie during Round two on Friday. This saw him finish the event with a total score of 7-over 151 and missing the cutline of 6-over by one shot. This 6-over cutline was the highest the event has had since 2017.

Which other notable players missed the cut at The Masters?

The one thing that can bring some comfort to Wyndham Clark is that he was not the only big name who had a tough time on the course and went on to miss the cut. Several former major champions and PGA Tour event winners such as Jordan Spieth, Sergio Garcia, and Dustin Johnson went home early.

The one player among them on whom the expectations had been high was Viktor Hovland. The Norwegian international had one of the best year on the Tour in 2023 and seemed to be one of the favorites to win The Masters at that time. However, the 2024 season has so far not been a good for him as he has struggled constantly in several events and looks completely different than last year.

Another man struggling for form is Justin Thomas. The two-time major champion had a hard time on the greens last season and it seems he is yet to get out of it. Thomas shot a score of 79 with two double bogeys in the back nine to miss the cut by one shot just like Clark.

Other notable players who missed the cut were Brian Harman, Bubba Watson, Adrian Meronk, Zach Johnson , and Justin Rose . All these stars will now be hoping for a strong bounce back in the next event while trying to forget about this trip to the Augusta National.
