Logan Gilbert Joins Legendary Felix Hernandez as Only Mariners Pitchers to Ever Accomplish This Feat
USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners beat the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night by a score of 2-0.

It was the sixth straight win for Seattle, who moved to just 2.0 games back of the final wild card spot in the American League.

Offensively, the M's scored on a pitch-clock violation bases loaded walk and a triple by Dylan Moore, but the real story was the work of Logan Gilbert on the mound.

There's a reason that the Mariners held onto Gilbert at the trade deadline and this kind of performance was it.

He went 7.0 innings, allowing just one hit. He struck out 12 and peppered the zone all night, throwing nearly 70 percent of his pitches for strikes.

He also joined Felix Hernandez in team history as the only pitchers to ever accomplish this feat, per ESPN Stats & Info:

Logan Gilbert just put up the 2nd performance in @Mariners history of 10+ strikeouts, 0 walks, and 1 or fewer hits allowed. The other was Félix Hernández' perfect game.

Hernandez is being inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame this upcoming weekend, so any time you are joined in history with a legend like that, you're doing something special.

With the win, Gilbert is 10-5 on the season. The 26-year-old has a 3.66 ERA.

In his third season in the big leagues, he's 29-16 with a 3.74 ERA.

The Mariners and Padres will play each other again on Wednesday night. First pitch is 9:40 p.m. ET as Yu Darvish pitches for the Padres. The Mariners haven't announced a starter yet but it's expected to be Emerson Hancock, making his major league debut.
