Twins' Carlos Correa haunts his old team, climbs record books in Game 2 win over Astros

On Sunday, Carlos Correa silenced the fans that once cheered him at Minute Maid Park.

The star shortstop returned to haunt the Houston Astros, producing a big game at the plate to help the Minnesota Twins take Game 2 of the American League Division Series, 6-2, evening it at a game apiece.

Correa came through in the clutch twice to victimize his former club.

In the top of the first inning, Correa opened the scoring, smashing an RBI double off Astros starter Framber Valdez to give the Twins an early 1-0 advantage.

Correa stepped up again in the fifth with the bases loaded, singling home two runs to chase Valdez from the game.

Correa finished 3-for-4, knocking in three runs to increase his career postseason RBI total to 63, moving into a tie with David Justice for the third-most in baseball history. Correa trails only Manny Ramirez (78) and Bernie Williams (80) for the all-time lead, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

Adding salt to the wound, Correa closed the game, throwing out his replacement, shortstop Jeremy Peña, after a spectacular diving stop.

While Correa led the way for the Twins offense, starting pitcher Pablo Lopez tossed the game of his life with Minnesota's season practically on the line.

Lopez kept the Astros' dangerous lineup at bay, baffling their bats with a marvelous 105-pitch masterpiece. The Twins ace allowed only six hits, five of which were singles, while striking out seven over seven shutout innings.

Behind Correa and Lopez, the Twins earned the all-important equalizer in the best-of-five series. They'll look to take a 2-1 lead as the ALDS shifts to Minnesota for Game 3 on Tuesday at 4:07 p.m. ET.
