New Orleans Saints insider Nick Underhill gave a significant update Thursday regarding running back Alvin Kamara's potential suspension.

As Underhill mentioned, the five-time Pro Bowler recently met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to give his side of the story for what transpired during the February 2022 incident near a Las Vegas nightclub. Kamara and three others (including Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Chris Lammons) had been facing charges of conspiracy to commit battery and battery resulting in substantial bodily harm -- a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
The 28-year-old pled no contest to breach of peace (a misdemeanor) and was assigned 30 hours of community service. Kamara also has to pay for the victim’s medical bills, which amounted to approximately $105,000.
Additionally, the victim's lawyer confirmed that his client and the running back reached a separate settlement last month, which included a public apology from the former third-round pick.
As insurance for Kamara's expected absence, New Orleans selected Kendre Miller out of TCU in the third round of this year's draft and signed seventh-year pro Jamaal Williams in March.
Williams had the best season of his career in 2022 with the Detroit Lions, finishing with career highs in rushing attempts (262) and rushing yards (1,066), while pacing the league in rushing touchdowns with 17. The BYU product's 17 scores were more than the 13 touchdowns he scored across his first five years combined.
The early February incident in question happened shortly after Kamara appeared in his most recent Pro Bowl.
He then played out the 2022 campaign and finished with 897 rushing yards and 490 yards through the air, with a career low four total touchdowns (including just two on the ground) across 15 games.
